Emerald Ash Borer

Description

Emerald ash borer is an invasive beetle that feeds on ash trees in North America. The beetle larvae burrow under the bark and feed on the wood while the adults do little damage. Adults have a dark metallic merald green body with flattened backs and leave a small D-shaped hole when they exit the tree.

Signs & Symptoms

• Canopy thinning and dieback
• Epicormic shoots on the stem
• D-shaped exit holes
• Larval galleries under the bark
• Bark blonding (white/tan patches)

Effects On Your Tree

Infestation of emerald ash borer can increase rapidly. This may cause serious structural weaknesses which may lead to hazards in your landscape.

Management Options

A tree with a moderate to severe infestation should be considered for prompt removal. A healthy tree (with little to no infestation) can be treated every other year to manage pest populations.
